“Holy Shmolly, Pismo Garden Art has Expanded”

After loyally serving the Pismo Beach and Five Cities community for more than 30 years, Pismo Beach Hardware has closed its doors in order to make way for something new: an expansion of Pismo Garden Art!

If you’re like most who have visited this old hardware store, your reaction was probably similar to this:

The old-fashioned hardware store, which has been a community fixture since the 1930s, was originally run by Lillie Mae Davis, a pioneering Pismo businesswoman who was known far and wide for having anything and everything in her compact store. Fast-forward a few decades to the present, and the Pringle family has kept the same tradition of offering just the right “doodad” for your “whatchamacallit,” and a helping hand to the “part-time handyman.”

More than 32 years ago, Bob Pringle first began his love affair with the old funky hardware store, which had become all but a skeleton of what it once was. With lots of love and patience, Bob and his wife Toni rolled up their sleeves and transformed the store into a classic full-service hardware store, where locals came to start and finish their projects, to reminisce about an old hardware store from their childhood, and to simply stop in and say hello.

Classic rolling wooden ladders from the 1930’s reach items that span the walls up to the ceiling, and the infamous “Bolt Room” is home to one of the county’s largest selections of fasteners and specialty hardware, with tens of thousands of individual items. The entire hardware store has been a marvelous repository of all things hard-to-find, as well as no-longer-manufactured hardware items.

Over the years, his six children have lent their free time to serve the needs of its customers, providing the type of homegrown service that has practically gone extinct with the rise of big box stores. Pismo Beach Hardware has been the place that locals have depended on for a wide range of project expertise and product knowledge. It is a place that has struck a responsive chord among hardware store fans.

They say that a good store is a treasure forever. The Pringle family hopes their customers will treasure the past 32 years of memories as much as they do.

Stop by and visit our expanded garden center with an even greater selection of whimsical and classic garden gifts than ever before!
